I am Co-Leader of the Emmy Noether Research Group “Understanding and the A Priori” at the University of Cologne in Germany. I work mainly in philosophy of mind, meta-philosophy and epistemology, but I have also interests in philosophy of language, phenomenology and certain areas of philosophy of science.
Currently, I am most interested in philosophical methodology (conceptual analysis, thought experiments, philosophical models, introspection, phenomenal analysis etc.), the relationship between a priori justification and necessity, the synthetic a priori, and questions about mental content.
Before I joined our research group in 2009, I studied and worked at the University of Bonn, the University of Cologne, the University of California at Davis and the RSSS at the Australian National University. In my dissertation I defended intentionalism in philosophy of mind from an epistemological perspective, and argued for an extended two-dimensional theory of mental content.
